Origami Octahedron

Many natural crystals are based on an octahedral lattice including diamond alum or fluorite.

Origami octahedron. Tuck the top right section into the gap. The whole object will now bend into the third dimension. Super easy modular origami octahedron.

Now you should have a three dimensional octahedron. For an octahedron there should always be cycles of four pyramids around a point. The sonobe units are typically connected in groups of three.

Use one sonobe unit to connect the three pyramids forming a fourth. Tuck the top left flap into the right section keeping the top right section together. Half of a sheet of a4 29 7 x 10 5 cm.

How to make an origami octahedron ball introduction. The finished piece of modular origami below is a stellated octahedron made with 12 sonobe units. The octahedron has eight triangular faces.

Finish up the octahedron. 4 units of each color. The ball is constructed by assembling 12 folded units together.

Plato believed it represents the ancient element air. These origami instructions use half of a sheet of a4 paper to create a 3d origami octahedron. Take a look at the images to see how to assemble units.

The sonobe unit is very versatile and can be used to make all sorts of polyhedra such a hexahedron a stellated octahedron a stellated icosahedron and many other irregular polyhedra. Open the lower section to create the octahedron. Learn to fold a sonobe unit here.

To finish the octahedron you have to keep attaching units always forming triangular pyramids in cycles of 4. A regular octahedron is a platonic solid composed of eight equilateral triangles four of which meet in the middle. Created by philipp legner design by david mitchell.

This sonobe stellated octahedron is made with 12 sonobe units created by mitsonobu sonobe. Beginners should use 3 colors of paper. Make the end of the top left section a valley fold.

It is the dual solid of the cube.
